1. Our Battle — Against What? (Ephesians 6:10–12)

St. Paul writes: “For our struggle is not with flesh and blood, but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens.-”

Paul reminds us that our struggle is deeper than conflicts between people. He describes the spiritual forces that oppose God's truth, love, justice, and peace.

A) The Principalities — Evil in Our Thinking Pride, jealousy, and prejudice can blind us to our weaknesses. The battle begins in our hearts. Do we allow Christ's truth to guide our thinking?

B) The Powers — Evil in the Misuse of Authority When we use our position to control, silence, or favour others, power becomes an instrument of harm. God gives us authority to serve, not to dominate.

C) The World Rulers of This Present Darkness —Evil We Accept as Normal When injustice, division, and dishonesty become common, we may take sides or remain silent. What we tolerate today may become the darkness we live in tomorrow.

D) The Evil Spirits in the Heavens — The Hidden Spiritual Struggle

Temptation, fear, and resentment can weaken our faith and draw us away from God and one another.

Our struggle is not against people, but against the evil that works through pride, jealousy, division, and hatred. The real battle is to resist whatever destroys God's truth, love, and unity in our hearts.

2. The Armour of God — How Do We Fight? (Ephesians 6:13–17)

Belt of Truth: Choose honesty and integrity, even when lying seems easier.

Breastplate of Righteousness: Choose what is right, even when it is difficult or goes unnoticed.

Shoes of the Gospel of Peace: Heal divisions rather than create anger, gossip, and conflict.

Shield of Faith: Trust God when fear, doubt, disappointment, and temptation threaten your faith.

Helmet of Salvation: Let the hope of God's saving love protect you from despair.

Sword of the Spirit — The Word of God: Let God's Word help you recognise falsehood, resist temptation, and make faithful choices.

God's armour is not merely something we pray about; it is something we practise. When anger rises, choose patience; when tempted, choose what is right; when hurt, choose forgiveness. We stand firm not by our own strength, but by God's power working in us.

3. Paul's Witness in Chains — How Do We Stand Firm? (Ephesians 6:18–20)

Though imprisoned, Paul asks not for his chains to be removed, but for the courage to proclaim the Gospel. His body is bound, but the Word of God cannot be imprisoned. Paul challenges us to witness to Christ even when we face criticism, misunderstanding, or difficulties. Prayer in the Spirit gives us courage to speak the truth with love and remain faithful. The chains may bind the messenger, but they cannot bind the Gospel.

Ephesians 6:10–20 calls us to recognise the evil we must resist, practise God's armour in our daily lives, and courageously witness to Christ. Our victory is not in defeating people, but in standing firm in God's truth and love.
