St Paul reminds us that once we lived in darkness, but now we are light in the Lord. Therefore, we must live as children of light, allowing Christ to transform our thoughts, words, attitudes, and actions.
First, we are called to imitate God and live in love. As beloved children, we reflect God's love through forgiveness, understanding, sacrifice, and care for others, even when it is difficult. We must keep our hearts free from impurity and greed. Greed is not only the desire for money but also the desire to possess, control, and have things our own way. When our desires become more important than God's will and the dignity of others, darkness enters our hearts.
St Paul also reminds us to let our words bring light. Gossip, foolish talk, and hurtful words can damage relationships and divide people. Our words should heal, encourage, and build unity rather than humiliate or hurt others. We must examine what governs our hearts and not be deceived by empty arguments. We may justify our behaviour. We must judge our actions by the Gospel. Being children of light requires continual conversion and the courage to choose what pleases God.
Let us ask ourselves: Do people experience the light of Christ through our lives, or do our attitudes and actions create darkness? *Being children of light is not merely a title we receive; it is a way of life we must practise every day.*
Loving Father, transform our hearts and guide our words and actions. May we reflect the light of Christ in our relationships and become instruments of Your love and peace. Amen.
