AATHAVAN MEDITATION
No. 2067 — Date: 06.10.2026
"Thus says your Lord, the LORD, and your God who contends for His people, 'Behold, I have taken out of your hand the cup of staggering, the chalice of My anger; you will no longer drink it.'" (Isaiah 51:22, NASB)
Today's meditation verse is a wonderful promise given to the children of the Lord. The verse declares that He is both your Lord and your God who contends for His people. If we truly live as His people, this promised word will multiply abundantly in our lives. Our Lord will contend on our behalf and help us receive and rejoice in a life of deliverance.
Even when we live a life pleasing to God, pressures, problems, and sufferings will still come our way in this world. Our Lord Jesus Christ also said, "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world." (John 16:33, NASB)
However, the suffering spoken of in today's meditation verse refers to a severe and intense hardship. The tribulation that Jesus spoke of is different from the suffering mentioned in today's meditation verse. God speaks of this through Isaiah: "Behold, I have taken out of your hand the cup of staggering, the chalice of My anger; you will no longer drink it." In other words, while God's children may face general tribulations, sufferings like the "cup of His anger" will not come upon us.
Just as students face examinations in a school, we are tested in life by various trials and tribulations; and just as a teacher disciplines a student who does wrong, we are disciplined by God when we sin. But when we live a life pleasing to Him, we overcome trials by His grace and our sins are forgiven.
However, if we remain stubborn and persist in our wicked ways, we cannot receive mercy. Today's meditation verse is spoken to people like us who were once stubborn but have now repented. Yes, the Lord God says, "Behold, I have taken out of your hand the cup of staggering, the chalice of My anger; you will no longer drink it."
In terms of the school student example, we looked at above, the message this verse conveys is essentially: "Because you sincerely asked for forgiveness, you are forgiven. I have forgiven you; I will no longer issue you a Transfer Certificate (T.C.) and expel you from the school."
Yes, beloved ones, small tribulations are inevitable for us who have come under the sheltering wings of Christ's love, but God will help us pass through them. However, major catastrophes—to the extent of being cast out—will not happen in our lives. Indeed, the Lord God declares, "You will no longer drink it."
