AATHAVAN MEDITATION

No.: 2080 | Date: 19.10.2026

"So, Jesus said to them again, 'Truly, truly I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.'" (John 10:7)

We, as people redeemed by Christ, are His sheep. The Lord Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd who leads these sheep in the right path. That is to say, He Himself is our door. Similarly, today, true shepherds in this world are those who point to Christ—the Door—and guide the redeemed people along the true path shown by the Lord Jesus. This is because such shepherds guide the sheep to enter through the door. Indeed, "But the one who enters through the door is a shepherd of the sheep." (John 10:2)

However, today there are also shepherds (ministers) who lead people away from Christ, the Door, and onto other paths. Jesus Christ refers to such individuals as thieves and robbers. Indeed, "Truly, truly I say to you, the one who does not enter the sheepfold through the door, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber." (John 10:1)

This means that anyone who preaches doctrines not taught by Christ is showing another path. Preaching the prosperity gospel, teaching that one can receive God’s blessings by giving monetary offerings, or claiming that accepting Christ means no troubles will come in this worldly life—those who teach such things are guiding people to climb up another way instead of entering through the door. Because they do this for their own personal gain, they are called thieves and robbers.

Furthermore, Jesus Christ continued, "I am the good shepherd, and I know My own, and My own know Me, just as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep." (John 10:14-15)

A good shepherd is one who guides others to enter through the door, which is Christ. Like Christ, such a shepherd knows the spiritual condition of the believers who trust in him and leads them accordingly. Those believers, in turn, know him. But the thieves referred to by Christ only care about how much they can extract from each believer.

King David, drawing from his childhood experience as a shepherd, envisioned himself as a sheep and the Lord as his shepherd, speaking from the perspective of a sheep: "The Lord is my shepherd, I will not be in need. He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake." (Psalm 23:1-3)

Yes, dear ones, this is what David identified as the hallmark of a good shepherd. David proclaimed this nearly 2,500 years before Christ. Namely, those who trust in the Good Shepherd do not suffer lack in life; the Shepherd meets the needs of His sheep in due season, restores the souls of His believers, and helps them live righteous lives.

When one tries to enter through shortcut methods instead of entering through the door, none of these blessings are realized or retained in life. Therefore, dear ones, it is vital that we remain vigilant against thieves and robbers who guide people to climb up another way rather than entering through the door.

If we genuinely desire spiritual growth in our lives, we must walk in the path demonstrated by Christ, the Good Shepherd. As a first step, we must yield ourselves completely to Him to lead us. Then, the Spirit of Truth from Christ Himself will guide us. Even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we will fear no evil, for His rod and His staff, they comfort us. (Psalm 23:4)
