Live like people of the day light.

"For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation." ( 1 Thessalonians‍ 5 : 7,8 )

We who are spiritual and knew Christ and live according to him belong to day light. Moreover, we are children of light because the light of our Lord Jesus Christ, the sun of righteousness, is in us. We are children of light because of Jesus Christ who promised "I am the light of the world".

Those who do not know Christ are in darkness and they do deeds of darkness. They will be in a spiritual slumber. Or they are drowning in sin and are obsessed with sin; They are enjoying themselves in sin.

We were all like this when we did not know Christ. The light of Christ shone upon us, who were thus asleep and now victorious over sin. This light, which is Christ, was seen by the prophet Isaiah, who wrote, "The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined." ( Isaiah 9 : 2 )

Jesus Christ said about himself, "...Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth." ( John 12 : 35 ) 

In today's verse Paul refers to us who are spiritual as those of the day light. "let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation."

But spiritual sleepers and sinners hate light. They will be happy to be in the dark. "For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved." ( John 3 : 20 )

But they will be under judgment. Jesus Christ said, "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." ( John 3 : 19 ).

Beloved, let us be enlightened, having known Christ, the true light, and clothe ourselves with the breastplate of faith, love, and the hope of salvation. Yes, faith and love in Christ is the breastplate. The helmet is the experience of salvation. Let us protect them from loss at all times.

Let us leave spiritual sleep and sinful passions and live like people of the day light.
