Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

"Grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." (2 Peter 3:18)

In today's meditation verse, apostle Peter says that we must grow in two things.

1. To grow in the grace of Christ

2. To grow in the knowledge of Christ.

What we need to notice here is that Peter is not telling us that in the knowledge of Christ, but in the knowledge of Christ. There is a big difference between knowing someone and knowing about someone.

Take our Chief Minister for example. We all know about him. We know about him through newspaper reports and TV news. We know whose son he is, what his past experience is, what his skills are. How? The information we have learned about him in various ways.

In the same way many of us know about God today. We have come to know about God by reading the Bible, listening to various sermons, and being taught in Sunday Bible classes.

Knowing someone is different from this. In other words, in the example of our Chief Minister we saw earlier, his wife and son would know him personally, wouldn't they? His personal qualities, his personal love, will be experienced and known. That is, we know about him; They know him.

Peter says that we should know Christ personally. That is knowing God. God's personal love working in our lives, knowing what His will is and living in union with Him....this is knowing God.

Many of the Christians today do not know God but know about God as we know about the Chief Minister in the example we saw earlier. That is, they have learned the truths they have been taught about God and the truths they have read and understood. But there is no personal relationship with God. Only when we know God can we fully realize His love.

In today's verse, the apostle Peter says to grow in this knowledge. Peter, who wrote this as the final verse of his epistle, says as the opening verse of this epistle, "Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God and our Lord Jesus." (2 Peter 1:2). What Peter is saying is that when we know God and the Lord Jesus Christ like this, grace and peace will multiply in our lives.

Beloved, we must not merely live the Christian life in name, we must grow in knowing Christ and in his love. The first step is to reconcile with Him and experience redemption. He will reveal Himself to us when we confess our sins and transgressions to Christ and surrender ourselves completely to Christ. Only then can we know Him. Let us surrender to this experience. He will guide us to a higher spiritual life.
