The LORD shall fight for you

"And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison." ( Acts 12 : 6 )

King Herod killed the apostle James with a sword. Because it pleased the Jews, he next planned to kill the apostle Peter in the same way. So he arrested Peter and put him in prison and planned to kill him after the Passover. Today's verse tells about Peter who was imprisoned like that.

What we need to notice here is Peter's mindset. Imagine how we would be the night before if we were going to be beheaded tomorrow morning. How can we sleep peacefully?

What prison guards say about death row inmates has appeared in the press. From them we know that, the sentenced people will not sleep properly for about a week before the days of execution. They can't sleep. As if in a fit of mania, they will not be able to eat properly and sleep. Some people are restless like crazy.

But what we read about Peter here is a different matter. Knowing that Herod was going to bring him out the next morning and kill him like Jacob, Peter was sleeping peacefully between two guards, tied with two chains without any anxiety.

A peace undisturbed by death filled Peter. Jesus Christ promised to give such peace to all who believe in Him. "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." ( John 14 : 27 ) Yea, the world cannot give such peace that feareth not even death; Only Christ can give.

Today people turn to alcohol for peace of mind. Drinking alcohol to calm down may give you a momentary peace of mind, but its effects only exacerbate the existing problem, not reduce it.

Beloved, when we surrender ourselves completely to Christ, the problems of the world do not become too big for us. This is why many martyrs quietly sacrificed their lives even in the face of death. The reason is the faith that the Lord will fight for us.

God, who calmed the apostle Peter, who was appointed to kill, and let him sleep peacefully, will make us live peacefully without fear of problems. We are not going to be tested like Peter. So let's be brave. Because God's hand is always ready to fight for God's children.

Let us surrender ourselves completely to God and live in peace. He will take care of everything. What Moses said to the people of Israel in the book of Exodus is the same for us. So don't worry about problems. "The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." ( Exodus 14 : 14 )
