Hunters lay nets to catch birds. Not only that, but they also scatter grain inside those nets to attract and lure the birds in. The birds, seeking food, end up getting trapped inside the net. David, who was a shepherd, observed hunters doing this in the wild and compared it to spiritual realities. In that firm assurance, he declared, "He will pluck my feet out of the net."
Similarly, in modern times, many nations and rebels try to protect themselves by burying landmines in the ground to destroy their enemies.
Yes, dear ones, in the very same way, Satan attempts to allure and destroy our souls. He is the hunter who spreads nets to lure souls in and destroy them. But if our eyes are continually fixed on the Lord, He will free our feet from these nets. As we read in God's Word:
"I will say to the Lord, 'My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!' For it is He who rescues you from the net of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence." — Psalm 91:2–3 (NASB)
To escape these nets and landmines, we do not need to walk bowed down, staring at the ground. God has anointed us as kings. Therefore, it is enough for us to walk with our heads lifted up, looking to God. When we walk this way, He Himself will keep our feet free from the net.
Satan does not always try to destroy us directly. He may incite people against us, present alluring worldly traps to make us see and commit soul-destroying sins, entangle us in unnecessary troubles, bring severe destruction upon us, or afflict us with sicknesses to separate us from God. Whatever kind of snare it may be, if our eyes are kept on God, we will be delivered from it.
Job stands as a great example for us in this regard. When he faced various forms of destruction in his life, even his own wife rejected him. Even when she spoke as if telling him to "curse God and die," Job did not take his gaze off the Lord. We read:
"But he said to her, 'You are speaking as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we actually accept good from God but not accept adversity?' In all this Job did not sin with his lips." — Job 2:10 (NASB)
Yes, dear ones! Because Job kept his eyes fixed on God, the Lord delivered his feet from the nets of Satan and preserved him.
Even as you read this, you may feel trapped in some kind of net. Or Satan may have secretly laid a snare for you through other people without your knowledge. Whatever the situation may be, if we resolve to keep our eyes continually fixed on the Lord, He Himself will pluck our feet out of the net.
