🦋 Meditation verse 2 கொரிந்தியர் 3 : 9 / 2 Corinthians 3:9

Meditation – 2002

"AATHAVAN" – August 01,

Saturday, 2026

"For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceeds in glory." (2 Corinthians 3:9)

Today’s meditation verse highlights the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament, while bringing to light the excellence of believers in the glorious New Testament era.

The Old Testament ministry is described as a ministry of condemnation. It was a ministry of retribution—an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth—governed by unyielding laws. Yet, even in that ministry, the glory of God was revealed.

Furthermore, the Old Testament ministry was not permanent. It was meant to pass away and be made new through Jesus Christ. If that temporary Old Testament ministry possessed such glory, how much more glorious must the permanent, new ministry established through Jesus Christ be! The Apostle Paul speaks of this:

"For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious." (2 Corinthians 3:11)

Unlike the Old Testament ministry of Moses, Christ's New Testament is not bound by restrictive legalism. No one can become acceptable to God merely by observing commandments.

For instance, the Ten Commandments of the Old Testament are indeed wonderful, but observing them alone cannot make a person righteous. The Apostle Paul affirms this:

"...for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." (Galatians 2:16)

Yet today, many Christian churches fail to realize this distinction and continue to prioritize and teach old commandments like the Decalogue.

Our Lord Jesus Christ renewed and sharpened all the old commandments. For example, under the Old Testament, one was guilty of sin only if they physically committed adultery. Many refrained from the physical act out of fear of society or a lack of opportunity, despite harbouring the desire in their hearts. Jesus Christ taught that carrying such desire in one's heart is also a sin:

"But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." (Matthew 5:28)

In this manner, He transformed many commandments. Today, many churches neither understand this truth nor teach it.

This is the distinction between the Old Testament that brings condemnation and the far more glorious New Testament that brings righteousness. The New Testament is not about obeying a rigid list of rules; rather, it leads us according to the inner purpose for which God gave those commandments. Rules cannot set us free from sin—only the Spirit of the Lord can liberate and guide us. Indeed:

"Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." (2 Corinthians 3:17)

Under the Old Testament, abstaining from sin meant escaping punishment from God. But under the New Testament, if we live holy lives free from sin:

"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." (2 Corinthians 3:18)

Yes, how much more glorious is the New Testament that imparts righteousness! Let us seek to understand the difference between the Old and New Testaments, and live in the way revealed by the New Covenant. That indeed will bring us glory.
