"விசுவாசத்தினாலே ஆபேல் காயீனுடைய பலியிலும் மேன்மையான பலியை தேவனுக்குச் செலுத்தினான்; அதனாலே அவன் நீதிமானென்று சாட்சிபெற்றான்; அவனுடைய காணிக்கைகளைக் குறித்து தேவனே சாட்சிகொடுத்தார்; அவன் மரித்தும் இன்னும் பேசுகிறான்." ( எபிரெயர் 11 : 4 )

"By
faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he
obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gifts,
and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks." — Hebrews 11:4
Today’s
meditation verse speaks about offering sacrifices to God. There were many types
of sacrifices in the Old Testament, which we read about in the Book of
Leviticus. But as New Testament believers, we do not need to offer sheep,
cattle, bulls, or any of the other sacrifices specified in the Old Testament.
Whether
in Old Testament times or New Testament times, David says:
"The
sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God,
You will not despise." — Psalm 51:17
Yes,
God does not reject those who have a broken heart that has received conviction
of sin; those are the sacrifices God desires.
In
today's meditation verse, it says that by faith Abel offered a better sacrifice
to God than Cain. Offering a better sacrifice means giving the very best of
what we have to God. Both Cain and Abel offered sacrifices. Abel selected the
best and offered it to God. But Cain merely had the thought that he ought to
offer a sacrifice, so he simply brought some items.
We
read about this:
"So,
it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the Lord
of the fruit of the ground. Abel, on his part also brought of the firstborn of
his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and for
his offering; but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard." — Genesis
4:3–5
It
is noteworthy that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground, whereas
Abel brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. Yes,
beloved, we too must step forward to give the best of what we have to God.
God
does not consider our gold or material possessions to be great things. What God
considers the best among what we possess are our body and heart. We must offer
those as a sacrifice to Him. A body and heart undefiled by sin are the best
offerings God desires.
"Therefore,
I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living
and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of
worship." — Romans 12:1
Like
Abel, who offered a better sacrifice to God than Cain, we too must offer the
best to God. It was because he offered such a sacrifice that Abel obtained the
testimony that he was righteous; God Himself testified about his gifts; and
though he died, he still speaks. Yes, beloved, as New Testament believers
today, let us keep our body and heart holy and surrender them to God.
If
we surrender ourselves as a sacrifice acceptable to God in this way, the Lord
Jesus Christ will testify about us before the Father.
"I
say to you, everyone who confesses Me before men, the Son of Man will confess
the same one also before the angels of God; but he who denies Me before men
will be denied before the angels of God." — Luke 12:8–9
Yes,
let us live a witness-bearing life that confesses Christ. That is the finest
sacrifice.
