"But
he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth
himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth." ( 2 Corinthians
10 : 17, 18 )
Pride or conceit is a major sin that God hates. In the beginning, the angels fell and were cast into hell because of their pride. (Ezekiel 28) That is why we read, "Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble." (1 Peter 5: 5) and (James 4:6)
God does not listen to the
prayers of the proud because God opposes the proud. But most people don't
realize this. They boast and insult others. And pride knows no bounds. People
addicted to pride become like drunkards. I saw a scene in a temple where a person
who donated a fan to the temple wrote his name on one of the wings of the fan,
his wife's name on the other and the names of his two children on the third
wing. This is an example of human pride.
People are proud of their
knowledge, physical strength, wealth and beauty based on various aspects. But
no one thinks that these are in vain. Suddenly these may leave us. That is why
God says through the prophet Jeremiah: -
"Thus
saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the
mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But
let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that
I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in
the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD." (Jeremiah 9:
23, 24)
This is what the apostle Paul says in today's meditation verse. “For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth." This means that such proud people cannot be honest. If we live a life worthy of God and be glorified by God, then we are righteous. Also, if we want to be praised, we should be praised for knowing the Lord who created the heavens, the earth and the universe. "He that glorifies, let him glorify in the Lord."
So dear ones, let us live carefully so that pride does not arise in our lives. According to the words God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble, when we live humbly, grace surrounds us. Let us understand the humility of the Lord Jesus Christ and how God exalted him by reading the verses from Philippians 4:6 to 11. No matter how high we come in life, let us live with humility.
