"And we
know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who
are the called according to his purpose." (Romans 8: 28)
Today's verse by the apostle
Paul is helpful to strengthen us in spiritual life. That is, even if we live a
life that is right for God, sometimes we experience sufferings and crises. We
should not lose heart in such situations. The reason is that all things work
together for good to those who love God.
We do not know what will
happen later in our life. God keeps some things secret about us. So, when we
suffer, we must realize that behind this suffering we have a great blessing. As
today's verse says, it is enough if we are those who love God as those who are
called according to His purpose.
To love God is to live away
from sin. A perfect example of today's meditation verse is Joseph. He was hated
by his siblings, sold as a slave, falsely accused, and imprisoned in a country
where he was a slave. All these are the deeds that God did as He loved him and already
decided to make him the prime minister of Egypt. He also feared God and kept
himself holy even when sinful situations came.
After he became prime
minister of Egypt, Joseph says to his brothers who tortured him and sold him as
a slave. "And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the
earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not
you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and
lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of
Egypt." (Genesis 45: 7,8)
It is God's plan to lead him through suffering and lift him up and protect the people. Yes, dear ones, Joseph did not know what was going to happen later when he was suffering. Yet he lived a faithful life before God.
The apostle Paul sends his
fellow worker Timothy to the church in Thessalonica to tell them that all
things are working together for good for those who love God, who are called
according to his purpose. So he writes, "And sent Timotheus, our
brother, and minister of God, and our fellow labourer in the gospel of Christ,
to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:”(1 Thessalonians 3
: 2 )
Beloved, therefore do not be
weary of suffering. When we love God, everything happens for our good.
