"ஆதவன்" தியானம் - 1954
"உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருடைய நாமத்தை வீணிலே வழங்காதிருப்பாயாக; கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய நாமத்தை வீணிலே வழங்குகிறவனைத் தண்டியாமல் விடார்." ( உபாகமம் 5 : 11 )
இன்றைய தியான வசனம் தேவன் வழங்கிய பத்துக்கட்டளையின் மூன்றாவது கட்டளையாகும். கர்த்தருடைய பெயர் நமது நாவில் ஒலித்துக்கொண்டிருப்பது ஆசீர்வாதமான ஒன்றாகும். எல்லா பரிசுத்தவான்களும் கர்த்தரது பெயரைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்துகொண்டுதான் இருந்தார்கள். ஆனால் இன்றைய தியான வசனமானது அவருடைய பெயரை வீணாகச் சொல்லாதிருப்பாயாக என்று நமக்குக் கூறுகின்றது. மட்டுமல்ல, அப்படிக் கூறுபவனை அவர் தண்டிக்காமல் விடமாட்டார் என்று கூறுகின்றது. இது ஏன் என்பதனை நாம் தெளிவாகப் புரிந்துகொள்ளவேண்டியது அவசியம்.
வீணாகச் சொல்வது என்பது, சாட்சியற்ற வாழ்க்கை வாழ்ந்துகொண்டு தேவையில்லாத இடத்தில் அல்லது தேவையில்லாத முறையில் கர்த்தரது பெயரை உச்சரித்துக் கூறுவதைக் குறிக்கின்றது. ஒரு துன்மார்க்க கிறிஸ்தவ அரசியல்வாதி லஞ்சமும் ஊழலும் செய்து பணத்தைக் குவித்துவிட்டு மக்கள்முன், "கர்த்தர் என்னை ஆசீர்வதித்துள்ளார்" என்று கூறுவதை நாம் இதற்கு உதாரணமாகக் கூறலாம். இதனைக் கேட்கும் மக்கள் என்ன நினைப்பார்கள்? கர்த்தர் துன்மார்க்கனுக்கு உதவுபவர் என்றா அல்லது தவறாக வாழ்கையினைக் கண்டுகொள்ளாமல் இருப்பவர் என்றா? இப்படிக் கர்த்தரின் பெயர் அவமானப்படுத்தப்படுவதால் அவர் தனது பெயரை வீணாகக் கூறுபவனைத் தண்டிக்காமல் விடமாட்டேன் என்கின்றார்.
எனக்குத் தெரிந்த ஒரு நபர் அரசாங்க பதவியில் இருந்தார். அங்கு இருந்துகொண்டு தன்னிடம் வரும் மக்களுக்கு சுவிசேஷம் அறிவித்தலும் செய்தார். இதனைப் பலர் எதிர்த்தனர். வேலை நேரத்தில் ஏன் இவர் இப்படிச் செய்கின்றார் என்று அவருக்கு எதிராக போராட்டமும் செய்தனர். பல கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் அவரிடம் நீங்கள் செய்வது தவறு என்று எடுத்துக்கூறியும் அவர் எதனையும் கண்டுகொள்ளவில்லை.
தாசில்தார் பதவியில் இருந்த அவர் ஒருமுறை லஞ்சம் வாங்கும்போது கையும் களவுமாகப் பிடிபட்டார். அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து நடத்திய விசாரணையில் அவர் முறைகேடாக நிலங்களை தனது மனைவி பெயருக்கு பதிவுசெய்திருப்பதைக் கண்டுபிடித்தனர். ஆம் அன்பானவர்களே, அவர்மூலம் கிறிஸ்துவின்பெயர் பிற மக்கள் மத்தியில் அவமானமடைந்தது. சாட்சியற்ற வாழ்க்கை வாழ்ந்த இவர் கிறிஸ்துவின் பெயரை மக்களிடம் உச்சரிப்பதை நிறுத்தியிருந்தால் கிறிஸ்துவின் பெயர் அவமானமடைந்திருக்காது அல்லவா?
இதுபோல பல உதாரணங்களைக் கூறலாம். சாட்சியற்ற வாழ்க்கை வாழ்ந்துகொண்டு எப்போதும், "ஸ்தோத்திரம், அல்லேலூயா" என்று கூறிக்கொண்டு வாழும் பலரை நாம் நமது வாழ்விலும் ஊர்களிலும் சந்தித்திருக்கலாம். இத்தகைய மனிதர்கள் தங்களது வாழ்க்கையினை மாற்றிக்கொள்ள தேவன் அறிவுறுத்துகின்றார்.
ஒரு மூன்றாம்தர அரசியல் தலைவர் ஒருவேளை மற்றவர்கள் தங்களைப் புகழ்வதை விரும்பலாம். ஆனால் தேவன் அப்படிப்பட்டவரல்ல, அவர் தகுதியற்றவர்கள் தன்னைப் புகழ்வதை விரும்புவதில்லை. தனது பெயரை அவர்கள் உச்சரிப்பதையும் அவர் விரும்புவதில்லை. திருட்டு வழக்கில் கைதுசெய்யப்பட்ட ஒருவன் காவல்துறையினர் கைதுசெய்தபோது பிரபல நீதிபதியின் பெயரைக் குறிப்பிட்டு நான் அவரது மகன் என்று கூறினால் அது அந்த நீதிபதிக்கு எவ்வளவு பெரிய அவமானம்!!
கிறிஸ்துவின் பெயரை நாம் அறிக்கையிடவேண்டுமானால் முதலில் அதற்கேற்ற வாழ்க்கை வாழவேண்டியது அவசியம். முதலில் சாட்சியுள்ள ஒரு வாழ்க்கை வாழ்வோம். அப்போது நாம் அறிவிக்காமலே கிறிஸ்து அறிவிக்கப்படுவார். அப்படி இல்லையானால் இன்றைய தியான வசனம் கூறுகின்றபடி, கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய நாமத்தை வீணிலே வழங்குகிறவனைத் தண்டியாமல் விடமாட்டார்.

"AATHAVAN"
Meditation - 1954

"You shall not take the
name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished
who takes His name in vain." — Deuteronomy 5:11 (NASB)
Today's meditation verse is
the third commandment given by God. Having the name of the Lord constantly on
our lips is a beautiful blessing. All the saints have always praised and
magnified His name. However, today’s verse admonishes us not to use His name in
vain. Furthermore, it warns us that He will not leave the one who does so
unpunished. It is vital for us to understand clearly why this is so.
To take His name "in
vain" means to utter or invoke the Lord's name in unnecessary places or in
improper ways while living a life devoid of a true Christian testimony. As an
example, we can look at a wicked Christian politician who amasses wealth
through bribery and corruption, and then stands before the public saying, "The
Lord has blessed me." What will people think when they hear this? Will
they think that the Lord helps the wicked, or that He turns a blind eye to a
sinful life? Because the Lord's name is dishonoured in this manner, He declares
that He will not leave the one who takes His name in vain unpunished.
I knew a person who held a
government office. While working there, he would share the Gospel with the
people who came to see him. Many opposed this. They even protested against him,
questioning why he was doing this during working hours. Although many Christians
pointed out to him that what he was doing was wrong, he ignored them all.
Later, while serving in the
position of a Tahsildar (revenue officer), he was caught red-handed
accepting a bribe. The subsequent investigation revealed that he had illegally
registered lands in his wife's name. Yes, dearly beloved, through him, the name
of Christ was brought to shame among non-believers. If only he had refrained
from proclaiming the name of Christ to the people while living a life without a
proper testimony, the name of Christ would not have been dishonoured, would it?
We can point to many such
examples. In our own lives and towns, we may have encountered many people who
constantly say, "Stothram (Praise the Lord), Hallelujah," yet
live a life entirely lacking a true testimony. God admonishes such individuals
to transform their lives.
A third-rate politician
might delight in being praised by just anyone. But God is not like that; He
does not desire praise from those who are unworthy. He does not even want them
uttering His name. If a man arrested in a theft case claim to the police, "I
am the son of a prominent judge," what a massive dishonour that brings
to the judge!
If we are to confess the
name of Christ, it is essential that we first live a life worthy of that
confession. Let us first live a life of true testimony. When we do, Christ will
be revealed even without our spoken proclamation. Otherwise, as today’s meditation
verse warns, the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.
