Bible Meditation - No. 1,392
"Here is a boy who has
five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?" (John
6:9)
Often, we fail to recognize
the boundless power of God and instead focus only on the surrounding
circumstances, leading to doubt and despair. Similarly, we may question with
longing, "How can I live like others in this world with my limited
resources?" This is precisely the sentiment expressed by Andrew, Peter's
brother, in today's meditation verse.
After Jesus finished teaching,
He did not wish to send the crowd away hungry but desired to provide them food.
Turning to His disciples, He asked, "Where shall we buy bread for these
people to eat?" Philip responded, "Even if we had two hundred
denarii worth of bread, it would not be enough for everyone to have a
bite!" Then, Andrew remarked as recorded in today's verse.
Yes, dear ones, like Andrew,
we often find ourselves overwhelmed by life's challenges. Observing the crowd,
Andrew doubted, "How can five barley loaves and two fish be enough for so
many?" Similarly, we lament, "This is all the income I have, but my
expenses are overwhelming!" We list our expenses and wonder, "How can
I manage with so little?"
However, those same five
loaves and two fish not only fed five thousand people but also resulted in
twelve baskets of leftovers!
This miracle happened because
of the selflessness of a young boy. Sadhu Sundar Singh shared a revelation
about this event, stating, "When the boy told his mother that he was
going to hear Jesus preach, she prepared this food and sent him. Although many
in the crowd likely had food, they remained silent. Only this boy eagerly
offered what he had."
Beloved, even if we have
little, when we share from what we have, God will miraculously meet our needs
and make us a blessing to others.
Consider the widow of
Zarephath who had nothing left but a handful of flour for her last meal. She
believed she and her son would die of hunger after eating it. Yet, even in that
dire situation, she shared her bread with Elijah and received abundant blessings.
(1 Kings 17:10–16)
"Give, and it will be
given to you. A good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running
over—will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be
measured to you." (Luke 6:38)
