"Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name." (Psalm 91:14)
Today's meditation verse is
one of the most frequently read verses from Psalm 91. This verse highlights two
significant aspects: knowing the Lord and having a deep affection
(attachment) for Him.
1. Knowing the Lord
First, we must strive to
truly know Him. Knowing the Lord doesn’t simply mean being familiar with His
name or the miraculous works He performs; it signifies a personal and intimate
relationship, akin to how we know our parents, spouse, or close family members.
For example, we know what
kind of food our parents like or what makes them happy. Similarly, a husband
and wife are well aware of each other's preferences, and they openly share
their personal and familial problems. In such relationships, there are no secrets.
Likewise, knowing the Lord
means being in such an intimate relationship with Him. It involves
understanding what pleases God, what makes Him rejoice, and sharing with Him
not only our sorrows and troubles but also our moments of joy. This kind of
intimate connection is what it means to know the Lord. It is not about merely
knowing His name but experiencing Him in our hearts.
Furthermore, Scripture says:
"Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His
commandments." (1 John 2:3) This means that obedience to God’s
commandments, especially His command to love, is evidence that we know Him. "Beloved,
let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of
God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is
love."
(1 John 4:7-8)
2. Setting Our Love Upon Him
The second aspect is having
a deep affection or attachment to the Lord. Many assume that being attached to
God simply means attending church services, but it goes far beyond that. It is
about steadfast faith and unwavering love for God, regardless of challenges,
just as Job exhibited in his life. Peter says: "For this is
commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering
wrongfully."
(1 Peter 2:19)
Yes, dear ones, when we live this way, as the verse says: "Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name," God will deliver us from all afflictions and place us in a high refuge.
