🦋 Meditation verse - யோவான் 3: 14, 15 / John 3:14–15

 "விதைகளின் உள்ளே" 🌳

📖 ஆதவன் வேதாகமத் தியானம் - எண் 1876

"சர்ப்பமானது மோசேயினால் வனாந்தரத்திலே உயர்த்தப்பட்டதுபோல மனுஷகுமாரனும், தன்னை விசுவாசிக்கிறவன் எவனோ அவன் கெட்டுப்போகாமல் நித்தியஜீவனை அடையும்படிக்கு, உயர்த்தப்படவேண்டும்." ( யோவான் 3: 14, 15)

நமது பாவங்களுக்குப் பரிகாரமாக ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துச் சிலுவையில் உயர்த்தப்படவேண்டும் என்பதுதான் இன்றைய தியான வசனம் கூறும் உண்மை. இதுவே பிதாவாகிய தேவனின் முன்குறித்தலாகும். இதனையே பழைய ஏற்பாட்டுச் சம்பவம் மூலம் நமக்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டி விளக்குகின்றார் ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்து.  

இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் வனாந்தரத்தில் பயணம் செய்தபோது தேவனுக்கும் மோசேக்கும் எதிராக முறுமுறுத்து தேவ சித்தத்துக்கு எதிராக நின்றனர். எனவே தேவன் தண்டனையாக கொள்ளிவாய்ச்  சர்ப்பங்களை அவர்களுக்குள் அனுப்பினார். அதனால் கடிபட்டு பலர் இறந்தனர். அப்போது இஸ்ரவேலர் மோசேயிடம் வந்து, "நாங்கள் தேவனுக்கு எதிராகப் பாவம் செய்தோம், எனவே எங்களுக்காக தேவனிடம் மன்றாடும்" என்றனர். மோசே அப்படியே  தேவனிடம் ஜெபித்தார். 

"அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி: நீ ஒரு கொள்ளிவாய்ச் சர்ப்பத்தின் உருவத்தைச் செய்து, அதை ஒரு கம்பத்தின்மேல் தூக்கிவை; கடிக்கப்பட்டவன் எவனோ அவன் அதை நோக்கிப்பார்த்தால் பிழைப்பான் என்றார்." ( எண்ணாகமம் 21: 8) அப்படியே மோசே பாம்பு உருவினைச் செய்து வைத்தபோது பாம்பால் கடிபட்ட இஸ்ரவேலர் அதனைப்பார்த்து குணமானார்கள். 

பழைய ஏற்பாட்டுச் சம்பவங்கள் புதிய ஏற்பாட்டுக்கால சம்பவங்களுக்கு நிழலாக (image) இருக்கின்றன. அவை நாம் அப்படியே பின்பற்றவேண்டியவை அல்ல. "இப்படியிருக்க, நியாயப்பிரமாணமானது வரப்போகிற நன்மைகளின் பொருளாயிராமல், அவைகளின் நிழலாய்மாத்திரம் இருக்கிறபடியால்........." ( எபிரெயர் 10: 1) என நாம் வாசிக்கின்றோம்.

தேவன் மோசேயிடம் கூறியதை எடுத்துக்கூறி நாம் சிலைவணக்கத்தை நியாயப்படுத்தமுடியாது. காரணம் தேவன் ஏற்கெனவே மோசேயிடம் கொடுத்தப் பத்துக்கட்டளையின் முதல் கட்டளையே,  "மேலே வானத்திலும், கீழே பூமியிலும், பூமியின் கீழ்த் தண்ணீரிலும் உண்டாயிருக்கிறவைகளுக்கு ஒப்பான ஒரு சொரூபத்தையாகிலும் யாதொரு விக்கிரகத்தையாகிலும் நீ உனக்கு உண்டாக்கவேண்டாம்;" ( யாத்திராகமம் 20: 4) என்பதுகான். தேவன் தான் கூறியதை மாற்றிமாற்றி பேசுபவரல்ல. அவர் சொன்னது சொன்னதுதான்.  

ஆம் அன்பானவர்களே, பாம்பினால் கடிபட்டவர்கள்  மோசே கம்பத்தில் தூக்கிய வெண்கல பாம்பு உருவினைப்பார்த்து குணமானதுபோல பாவத்தின் பிடியால் சாகும் தறுவாயில் இருப்பவர்கள் சிலுவையில் உயர்த்தப்பட்ட இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவை நோக்கிப்பார்த்து மீட்பு அடைய முடியும். இதுவே வேதாகமம் கூறும் உண்மை. 

மோசே உருவாக்கிய பாம்பு உருவத்தை தேவன் வணங்கச் சொல்லவில்லை. ஆனால் இஸ்ரவேலர் அதனை வணங்க ஆரம்பித்தனர். அதற்குத் தூபம் காட்டிவந்தனர்.  எசேக்கியா ராஜா இதனைக் கண்டு கோபமடைந்து தகர்த்துப்போட்டார். "அவன் மேடைகளை அகற்றி, சிலைகளைத் தகர்த்து, விக்கிரகத்தோப்புகளை வெட்டி, மோசே பண்ணியிருந்த வெண்கலச் சர்ப்பத்தை உடைத்துப்போட்டான்; அந்நாட்கள்மட்டும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் அதற்குத் தூபங்காட்டி வந்தார்கள்; அதற்கு நிகுஸ்தான் என்று பேரிட்டான்." (2 இராஜாக்கள் 18: 4) என்று வாசிக்கின்றோம். 

எசேக்கியா ராஜா செய்த இந்த நல்ல காரியத்துக்காக பிளவை நோயால் அவர் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு மரணத்துக்கு ஏதுவாக இருந்தபோது இதனையே தேவனிடம் எடுத்துக்கூறி, "ஆ கர்த்தாவே, நான் உமக்கு முன்பாக உண்மையும் மனஉத்தமமுமாய் நடந்து, உமது பார்வைக்கு நலமானதைச் செய்தேன் என்பதை நினைத்தருளும் என்று விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணினான். எசேக்கியா மிகவும் அழுதான்." (2 இராஜாக்கள் 20: 3) என்று வாசிக்கின்றோம். 

எனவே, தேவன் அவரது வாழ்நாளை 15 ஆண்டுகள் நீட்டிக்கொடுத்தார். ஆம் அன்பானவர்களே, மோசே உயர்த்திய பாம்புச் சிலை இயேசு சிலுவையில் உயர்த்தப்பட்டதற்கு ஒரு முன்னடையாளம். அது சிலைவழிபாடை நியாயப்படுத்தக் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட சம்பவமல்ல. சிலுவையில் உயர்த்தப்பட்ட இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவையே நோக்கிப்பார்த்து மீட்படைவோம்.

"Inside the Seeds" 🌳

📖 AATHAVAN Bible Meditation — No. 1876           🔆 Saturday, March 28, 2026

"As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life." (John 3:14–15)

The core truth of today’s meditation is that the Lord Jesus Christ had to be lifted up on the cross as an atonement for our sins. This was the foreordained plan of God the Father. Our Lord Jesus Christ explains this truth by pointing us toward an event from the Old Testament.

When the Israelites journeyed through the wilderness, they grumbled against God and Moses, standing in opposition to God’s will. As a result, God sent fiery took serpents among them as a punishment. Many were bitten and died. Then the people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned, because we have spoken against the Lord and you; intercede with the Lord for us." Moses prayed for the people.

"Then the Lord said to Moses, 'Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard; and it shall come about, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, he will live.'" (Numbers 21:8)

When Moses made the bronze serpent and set it up, those who had been bitten looked at it and were healed.

Old Testament events serve as a shadow (image) of things to come in the New Testament era; they are not necessarily patterns we are meant to replicate literally. As we read in scripture:

"For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things..." (Hebrews 10:1)

We cannot use God’s instruction to Moses to justify idolatry. The very first of the Ten Commandments given to Moses was:

"You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth." (Exodus 20:4)

God does not contradict Himself. What He has spoken remains firm.

Beloved, just as those bitten by snakes were healed by looking at the bronze serpent lifted by Moses, those on the verge of spiritual death due to the grip of sin can find salvation by looking toward Jesus Christ, who was lifted up on the cross. This is the ultimate truth of the Bible.

God never commanded the people to worship the serpent Moses created. However, the Israelites eventually began to worship it and burn incense to it. When King Hezekiah saw this, he was moved to righteous anger and destroyed it.

"He removed the high places and broke down the sacred pillars and cut down the Asherah. He also broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the sons of Israel burned incense to it; and it was called Nehushtan." (2 Kings 18:4)

Later, when King Hezekiah was terminally ill and near death, he pointed to his faithfulness in doing what was right (including this act of purifying worship) and prayed:

"Remember now, O Lord, I beseech You, how I have walked before You in truth and with a whole heart and have done what is good in Your sight." And Hezekiah wept bitterly. (2 Kings 20:3)

Because of this, God extended his life by fifteen years.

Beloved, the serpent lifted by Moses was a foreshadowing of Jesus being lifted on the cross. It was not an event intended to justify idol worship. Let us look only to Jesus Christ, who was lifted up for us, and receive His salvation.
