"For
the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth
forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
"But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto
cursing; whose end is to be burned." (Hebrews 6: 7,8)
Today's meditation verse gives us an advice by comparing God's words to rain. That is, God makes his word heard by everyone on earth. God's words reach people in one way or another. God's words are often showered on the hearts of people.
When it rains, the cropland
drinks the water and makes the crop in it grow. But the land that is not
suitable for anything grows weeds and thorns with that water. When God's verses
are showered on us like this rain, it is necessary that we use it like good
crop land to give good results. In this way, we will receive the blessings of
God if we drink the rain which is the word of God that often falls on us, and
become like a land that grows crops for those who cultivate it.
On the contrary, after
hearing and knowing the verses and not planting accordingly, if we are like the
ground that sprouts thorns and thistles, we will be unfit and fit to be cursed
by God. Today's verse warns us that the end will be burning.
Why does God say that the
land that produces the thorns will be burned? God's will is that, rainwater
should fall on the ground and give seed to the sower and food to the eater. It
is sent for that purpose. So are the words of God. They are sent to cultivate
man and make him fruitful.
"For
as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither,
but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give
seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth
out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that
which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." (Isaiah
55: 10,11)
God says, “It shall not return
unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper
in the thing whereto I sent it." Hence, as it is
contrary to God's sure words, if that land brings forth thorns and thistles it
will be cursed, its end is burning.
Beloved, we must not
disregard the words of God. God trustfully sends His words to us for a good
purpose. When we live as a fertile land and yield fruits, we will receive
blessings from God.
