 🌅ஆதவன் தியானம்🌅

"அல்லாமலும், நீங்கள் உங்களை வஞ்சியாதபடிக்குத் திருவசனத்தைக் கேட்கிறவர்களாய் மாத்திரமல்ல, அதன்படி செய்கிறவர்களாயும் இருங்கள்." (யாக்கோபு 1:22)

தேவ வசனங்களைக் கேட்கக்கூடிய வாய்ப்பு பெரும்பாலும் அனைவருக்கும் கிடைக்கின்றது. பிரசங்கங்கள் மூலமாகவும் இதர வழிகளிலும் நாம் தேவ வசனங்களைக் கேட்கின்றோம், வாசிக்கின்றோம். ஆனால் கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் பலரும் இதுவே போதுமென்று எண்ணிக்கொள்கின்றனர். ஊழியர்கள் பேசும் பேச்சுக்கள், ஜெபக்கூட்டங்களில் கூறப்படும் கருத்துக்கள் இவை வேத வசனங்கள்தான். நாம் இவற்றைக் கேட்பதால் மட்டும் தேவனுக்கு ஏற்புடையவர்கள் ஆகிவிடுவதில்லை. 

பள்ளிக்கூடங்களில் விஞ்ஞான வகுப்புகளில் நாம் பல்வேறு கோட்பாடுகளைக் குறித்து அறிந்துகொள்கின்றோம். ஆனால் அவை  பெரும்பாலும் நாம் படித்து அவைகளை தேர்வுத்தாளில் விடையாக எழுதுவதுவரை நினைவில்கொள்கின்றோம். இவை பெரும்பாலும் நமது தனிப்பட்ட வாழ்வில் பயன்படுத்த முடியாதவை. ஒருவேளை நமக்கு வேலைவாய்ப்புக்கள் கிடைக்கும்போது இவைகளில் சில நமக்குப் பயன்படலாம். 

ஆனால் வேத வசனங்கள் அப்படிப்பட்டவையல்ல. அவை அனைத்தும் நாம் அன்றாட வாழ்வில் பயன்படவேண்டும் எனும் நோக்கத்தில் எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளன. அவைகளை நாம் கேட்கிறவர்களாய் மாத்திரமல்ல, அதன்படி செய்கிறவர்களாயும் இருக்கவேண்டியது அவசியம். அப்படி நாம் நமது வாழ்வில் அவற்றைக் கடைபிடிக்கவில்லையானால் நம்மை நாமே வஞ்சிக்கின்றோம் என்று பொருள். அதாவது, நம்மை நாமே ஏமாற்றுகின்றோம் என்று பொருள்.

பெரும்பாலான பாரம்பரிய கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் மனப்பாடமாக தேவ வசனங்களை அறிந்து வைத்துள்ளனர். அவர்களிடம் தேவனைக்குறித்து பேசும்போது நாம் சில வசனங்களைக் கூற ஆரம்பிக்குமுன்னரே அவர்கள் அந்த வசனத்தையும் அது குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ள வேத அதிகாரத்தையும் வசன எண்ணையும் கூறிவிடுவதுண்டு. காரணம் அவர்கள் சிறுவயதுமுதல் அவற்றை வாசித்துப் பழகியுள்ளனர்.  இந்தப் பெயர் கிறிஸ்தவர்களிடம் ஆவிக்குரிய சத்தியங்களை விளக்கிக் கூறி புரியவைப்பது கடினம். அவற்றை விளக்குவதற்கு நாம் சில வசனங்களை மேற்கோள்காட்டி பேசும்போது, அவர்கள் அதனை உண்மையான மனதுடன் கேட்பதில்லை. காரணம், "இவர்  இப்போதுதான் வேதாகமத்தை வாசிக்கத் துவங்கியுள்ளார் எனவே இதனைப் பெரிதாகக் கூறுகின்றார்" என எண்ணிக்கொள்கின்றனர்.   

இப்படி இருப்பவர்கள் தேவ வசனங்கள் கூறும் உள்ளான சத்தியத்தை அறியமுடிவதில்லை. காரணம் அவர்கள் திருவசனத்தைக் கேட்டுப் பழக்கப்பட்டுபோனவர்கள். இப்படி தேவ வசனங்களை கேட்கிறவர்களாய் மாத்திரமல்ல, அதன்படி செய்கிறவர்களாயும் இருங்கள் என்று இன்றைய தியான வசனம் கூறுகின்றது. வேத வசனங்களின்படி நாம் செய்யும்போதுதான் தேவன் நம்மில் செயல்புரிவார். மட்டுமல்ல, அப்போதுதான் வேதாகமத்தில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ள சம்பவங்கள் உண்மை என்பதை நமது வாழ்வில் நாம் அனுபவத்தில் கண்டு நமது வாழ்க்கையிலும் அதுபோன்ற சம்பவங்கள் நடைபெறுவதைக்  காணமுடியும்.  

எனக்குத் தெரிந்த ஒரு  வயதான ஏழை ஊழியர் துணி துவைப்பதற்கு சோப்பு வாங்குவதற்கு வகையற்று இருந்தபோது எலியா தீர்க்கத்தரிசிக்கு காகம் உணவளித்ததுபோல ஒரு காகம் சோப்பு கொண்டு கொடுத்த சம்பவமும் இன்னொரு ஊழியருக்கு பசிக்கு முட்டை கொண்டுவந்து கொடுத்த சம்பவமும் நடைபெற்றதை அவர்கள் கூற நான் கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிறேன். காரணம், அவர்கள் தேவ வசனத்தைக் கேட்பவர்களாக மட்டுமல்ல, அவற்றின்படி செய்பவர்களாகவும் இருந்ததுதான். 

ஆம் அன்பானவர்களே, திருவசனத்தைக் கேட்கிறவர்களாய் மாத்திரமல்ல, அதன்படி செய்கிறவர்களாயும் இருப்போம். அப்போதுதான் தேவனது செயல்பாடு நம்மிலும் நம்மூலம் பிறருக்கும் பயனளிப்பதாக இருக்கும். வேத வசனங்களை வெறுமனே வாசித்து அவற்றின்படி செயல்படாமல் நம்மை நாமே வஞ்சித்து ஏமாறாமல் இருப்போம்.

“But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves.” (James 1:22 – NASB)

Almost everyone has the opportunity to hear the Word of God. We hear and read God's Word through sermons and various other means. However, many Christians think that this alone is sufficient. The messages delivered by ministers and the teachings shared in prayer meetings are all based on the Scriptures. But merely listening to them does not make us acceptable to God.

In our science classes at school, we learn about various theories and principles. However, most of the time, we remember them only until we study them and write the answers in our examination papers. Many of these things cannot be applied to our personal lives. Perhaps, when we get employment, some of them may prove useful to us.

But the Word of God is not like that. Every Scripture has been written with the purpose of being applied in our everyday lives. It is essential that we should not merely be hearers of the Word but also doers of it. If we fail to practise the Word of God in our lives, it means that we are deceiving ourselves. In other words, we are cheating ourselves.

Most traditional Christians know many Bible verses by heart. When we speak to them about God, even before we begin quoting certain verses, they often tell us the verse itself, along with the chapter and verse number where it is found. This is because they have been accustomed to reading these Scriptures from their childhood.

It is difficult to explain and help such Christians understand spiritual truths. When we quote certain Bible verses to explain those truths, they do not listen with a receptive heart. This is because they think, "This person has only recently started reading the Bible, and that is why he is making such a big issue of it."

People who have this attitude fail to understand the deeper truths contained in God's Word because they have become so accustomed to merely hearing the Scriptures. Today's meditation verse reminds us that we must not merely hear the Word but also put it into practice. It is when we act according to the Word of God that He works in us. Moreover, only then can we personally experience the truth of the incidents recorded in the Bible and witness similar things happening in our own lives.

I have heard an elderly, poor minister whom I know share an incident from his life. When he could not afford to buy soap to wash his clothes, a crow brought him a bar of soap, just as the ravens provided food for the prophet Elijah. I also heard an incident in which a crow brought an egg to another minister when he was hungry. I have heard these accounts from them. The reason behind such experiences was that they were not merely hearers of God's Word but also doers of it.

Yes, dear friends, let us not merely be hearers of the Word but also doers of it. Only then will God's work in us and through us become a blessing to others as well. Let us not deceive ourselves by merely reading the Scriptures without putting them into practice.
